Approved by A.I.C.T.E ,New Delhi & Affiliated to the SCTE & VT,Odisha

& Under the DTE&T, Odisha & SD&TE Department, Govt. of Odisha

The Department of Mathematics and Sciences was established in 2014 along with other departments of Engineering. The Department of Mathematics and Sciences at GP Nayagarh is a center for research and teaching composed of academics from five different disciplines: Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, and Computer Application. With its varied range of teaching interests and expertise, the department promotes interdisciplinary work in humanities, mathematics, and sciences, offering teaching and supervision aimed to attract students from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds. Indispensable to engineering and the sciences, this range of subjects plays a central role in academic life at GP Nayagarh and our department offers you the opportunity to explore these fascinating subjects. The Department has five faculty members who teach a range of courses in Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, and Computer Application. The department possesses a well-equipped language Laboratory. By teaching the basic courses in mathematics and science, the department is responsible for the quality of education for all engineering students at GP Nayagarh. We utilize our expertise in applicable areas of mathematics/science and our interdisciplinary connections in the construction of a curriculum that gives excellent support to educational activities across the institution and prepares students for success in a wide range of careers both in academia and beyond.

We seek to encourage students to view science holistically as a domain of human knowledge which is not in isolation from, but in productive dialogue with society and culture, and with other areas of human production. The department has been conceptualized with this vision of foregrounding the interfaces between science, society, and culture, and of initiating a dialogue between the natural sciences, the social sciences, and the humanities. The M&SC department thus aims to foster critical thinking, creativity, interdisciplinary study, and scholarship.

VISION

The department of Mathematics& Science is committed to inculcating competence and expertise in the students in the field of basic sciences, technology, and personality development so that they can think critically and communicate clearly. The department is dedicated to providing fundamental education through experimentation in a diverse and interdisciplinary field.

MISSION

  1. To flourish a strong scientific foundation through fundamental principles of physics, chemistry, and mathematics to pursue a successful engineering carrier and to train the students to apply these basic principles in real-world situations.
  2. To inculcate extraordinary analytical, logical, soft skills, and ethical values in students to prepare them for the corporate world.
  3. To integrate human values and social concerns with technical education.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:

  1. To acquire the ability to evaluate and solve a problem through application of mathematics and science.

  2. To acquire the ability to understand the basic principles and their application in engineering and technology.

  3. To develop the ability to communicate effectively.

  4. To adopt ethical attitude and exhibit teamwork and leadership qualities.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES (POs)

Po1-Basic and Discipline specific knowledge: Apply knowledge of basic mathematics, science and engineering fundamentals and engineering specialization to solve the engineering problems.

Po2-Problem analysis: Identify and analyse well-defined engineering problems using codified standard methods.

Po3-Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for well-defined technical problems and assist with the design of systems components or processes to meet specified needs.

Po4-Engineering Tools, Experimentation and Testing: Apply modem engineering tools and appropriate technique to conduct standard tests and measurements.

Po5-Engineering practices for society, sustainability and environment: Apply appropriate technology in context of society, sustainability, environment and ethical practices.

Po6-Project Management: Use engineering management principles individually, as a team member or a leader to manage projects and effectively communicate about well-defined engineering activities.

Po7-Life-long learning: Ability to analyse individual needs and engage in updating in the context of technological changes.

Program Specific outcomes (PSOs)

PSO 1: Ability to apply domain knowledge in testing and maintenance of electrical machine and equipments.

PSO 2: Ability to prepare design and estimate of various electrical installations.

PSO 3: Contribute for the generation and utilization of green energy to meet the increasing demand of the society.
